And Traded similarly to cryptocurrencies. Because these credits are digital tokens that derive value and are transferred through blockchain systems, they could potentially fall within the VDA framework.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CBDTs_Current_Position_of_Carbon_Credits_VDA_Status\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong> CBDT&#8217;s Current Position of Carbon Credits &amp; VDA Status<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As of FY 2025-26, there is no CBDT notification specifically excluding carbon credits from the VDA definition. This means \u00a0Not all carbon credits are automatically VDAs, Not all carbon credits are automatically excluded from VDAs. And Classification depends on the legal and technological structure of the particular instrument. Is it tokenized? , Does it trade like a crypto asset? And is there a smart contract involved?<\/li>\n<li>Auditor must take the document: Tax position adopted, legal rationale, and supporting technical evidence.
