GST Portal Update for Tally Users: Complete the New API Access Selection Before 30 September.

  • Businesses using Tally’s Connected GST Services should take note of an important update introduced by GSTN. A new setting has been added on the GST Portal that requires taxpayers to explicitly authorize the GST Suvidha Provider and Application Service Provider to continue using various GST-related features within Tally.
  • Failure to update this setting may affect access to several GST compliance functionalities available through Tally.

What Has Changed?

  • GSTN has introduced a new authorization facility under: My Profile → Manage API Access
  • Taxpayers are now required to select and authorize the service providers through which GST-related APIs are accessed. This change provides greater control and transparency over third-party applications accessing GST data and services.

Who Needs to Take Action?

This update is relevant for:

  • Businesses using TallyPrime Connected GST Services
  • Chartered accountants managing GST compliance through Tally
  • Tax consultants handling multiple GST registrations
  • Enterprises uploading returns directly from Tally

Steps to Enable Tally-Connected GST Services

Follow these simple steps on the GST Portal:

Step-1: Log in to the GST Portal.

Step-2: Navigate to My Profile → Manage API Access.

Step-3: Select the following options:

    • GSP: Tally India Private Limited
    • ASP: Tally Solutions Private Limited
    • Duration: 30 Days

Step-4: Click Confirm to authorize access.

Why Is This Important?

  • The authorization enables Tally to continue providing Connected GST Services seamlessly.
  • After authorization, users can continue to access features such as GSTIN Validation, Create Ledger by GSTIN, Upload GSTR-1 directly from Tally, Download GSTR-2B, Download GSTR-3B Details, GST Return Reconciliation, and Other Connected GST Compliance Services.
  • Without the necessary authorization, these features may stop functioning or experience interruptions.

Deadline to Complete the Process

  • Complete the API Access authorization before 30 September to ensure uninterrupted use of Tally’s Connected GST services. Businesses are advised not to wait until the last date and should complete the authorization at the earliest.

Managing Multiple GST Registrations?

If your organization manages multiple GSTINs, or if you are a tax professional handling compliance for several clients:

  • Review this setting separately for each GST registration.
  • Ensure API access has been authorized for every applicable GSTIN.
  • Maintain a compliance checklist to track renewal of access permissions.

Why GST API Access Matters for Businesses and Tally Users

  • In today’s digital tax environment, businesses need faster, more accurate, and automated GST compliance processes. GST API access enables seamless integration between the GST Portal and accounting software such as Tally, helping taxpayers manage compliance activities efficiently while reducing manual effort.
  • By leveraging API connectivity, businesses can streamline various GST functions, including return filing, GSTIN verification, e-way bill generation, and input tax credit reconciliation. This not only saves valuable time but also minimizes the risk of errors and improves overall compliance management.
  • Whether you are a business owner, accountant, tax consultant, or chartered accountant managing multiple GST registrations, enabling GST API access can significantly simplify day-to-day GST operations.
  • For Tally users, configuring API access on the GST Portal ensures uninterrupted access to Tally’s Connected GST Services and enhances productivity through automation.

Can a Startup Access GST API Services?

Yes. Any taxpayer having a valid GST Registration Number (GSTIN) can access GST API-based services through authorized GST Suvidha Providers (GSPs) and Application Service Providers (ASPs), irrespective of whether the business is a startup, SME, or large enterprise.

What Is the Use of GST API Access?

GST API access enables automation of several important compliance activities, including GST Return Filing, GSTIN Validation, E-Way Bill Generation, Input Tax Credit (ITC) Reconciliation, GSTR-1 Upload, GSTR-2B and GSTR-3B Download, Bulk Invoice Upload and Reconciliation, and GST Compliance Monitoring and Reporting

Conclusion

  • GST API access plays a crucial role in modern GST compliance by enabling secure and automated communication between the GST Portal and business accounting systems.
  • The new Manage API Access feature on the GST Portal is an important compliance update for Tally users.
  • By authorizing Tally India Private Limited as GSP and Tally Solutions Private Limited as ASP, businesses can continue to enjoy seamless access to GST return filing, GSTIN validation, return downloads, and other connected services.
  • For Tally users, completing the new GST Portal API authorization is essential to continue using Connected GST Services without interruption. Businesses should review and update their API access settings well before the due date to ensure seamless GST compliance and uninterrupted access to critical features.
  • Completing this simple process before 30 September will help avoid disruptions in GST compliance activities.
